Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree: Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
• License: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be approved by the VA or equivalent, including non-US programs with at least five years of verified practice in the U.S.
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
• Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Additional: Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Subspecialty certification in Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine is preferred.
• Physical Requirements: Must meet physical standards, including a pre-placement physical exam, ability to lift 15-44 pounds, reach above shoulder, use fingers and both hands, walk and stand for 3-5 hours, kneel, and have good depth perception and color discrimination. Hearing aids are permitted.

Duties

• Major duties include clinical coordination, overseeing medical services, managing patient flow, monitoring quality and safety, and ensuring compliance with standards.
• Administrative responsibilities involve representing CLCs on facility committees, overseeing hiring and credentialing, and strategic planning.
• Participates in educational programs and supports research activities as time permits.
